From Peaky Blinders to Duran Duran, Birmingham is home to some iconic parts of British culture. Not sure what to do when you come to visit? Here are some of the top things to see when you are in Birmingham.
The Cube
In the heart of the city, the Cube stands out on the Birmingham skyline. You can admire its architecture from the canals or, if you’re feeling fancy, you can take part in their top floor dining experience allowing you to get a beautiful panoramic view of the city.
The Birmingham Library
If you want to get a view of the city but don't want to splash the cash, the library is the place to go. The roof gardens give you space to quietly read a book whilst admiring the city’s skyline.
Digbeth
Digbeth was named the coolest neighbourhood in Britain in 2018 by the Sunday Times. It has a range of independent cafes and shops to go to as well as the Old Crown, the oldest pub in Birmingham. Enjoy seeing the buildings nestled under the railway arches and the street art found on almost every wall.
The Bullring
The Bullring is the place to go to fulfil any of your shopping needs. It is filled with all kinds of retailers to help with your every need or want. When you’re done shopping you can find a place to eat and admire its unique architecture from outside.
The Canals
Did you know that Birningham has more canals than Vence? The canals used to be used for transportation of materials during the Victorian era. Today these routes are still busy with canal boats, joggers and cyclists. Take a wander along these waterways to get a different view of the city.
Old Joe
Old joe is not just the world’s tallest freestanding clock tower (take that Big Ben) but it is also one of the most recognisable symbols for the University of Birmingham. If you see it at night you may see the tower’s clock face lit up in a different colour on special dates.
